This 5-day journey from Marrakech to Fes takes you deep into Morocco’s dramatic landscapes and ancient culture. You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains, explore UNESCO sites, trek by camel through the Sahara, sleep under the stars in a desert camp, and end your adventure in the imperial city of Fes.
Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Early pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech.
Scenic drive through the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m).
Stop to visit the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a famous fortified village used as a filming location (Gladiator, Game of Thrones).
Continue to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” with a possible visit to the Taourirt Kasbah or movie studios.
Journey through the Valley of the Roses and arrive in the Dades Valley.
Overnight stay in a hotel or traditional riad with dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga
After breakfast, drive through the dramatic Dades Gorge, with its rock formations and kasbahs.
Continue to the spectacular Todra Gorges, towering canyon walls popular for hiking and climbing.
Journey through palm-filled oases, and arrive in Erfoud, known for fossil workshops.
Reach Merzouga, gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Ride a camel into the Sahara Desert at sunset and arrive at a desert camp.
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, music around the fire, and a night under the stars in a Berber tent.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert Exploration
Sunrise camel ride back to Merzouga village.
Full day to explore the surrounding Sahara region:
Visit Khamlia village to hear traditional Gnawa music.
Stop by nomadic families for tea and cultural exchange.
Explore seasonal lakes, fossil areas, or go sandboarding or ATV riding (optional).
Return to your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay near the dunes.
Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt
After breakfast, depart Merzouga and begin your journey north.
Drive along the scenic Ziz Valley, dotted with date palms and fortified villages.
Stop in Errachidia and Rich, small desert towns along the way.
Continue to Midelt, a mountain town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges.
Overnight in a comfortable guesthouse or hotel with dinner and breakfast.
Day 5: Midelt – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Fes
Drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing forests, rivers, and traditional Berber towns.
Stop in Azrou to see the cedar forest and possibly spot wild Barbary macaque monkeys.
Visit Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture.
Arrive in Fes by late afternoon.
Drop-off at your hotel or riad. End of tour.
