Travel Tips for Visiting Morocco
Whether you’re heading into the Sahara, crossing the Atlas Mountains, or exploring imperial cities, here are some essential tips to make your Moroccan journey unforgettable.
🌞 Weather & Best Time to Travel
Spring (March–May) and Fall (September–November) offer the best temperatures.
The Sahara Desert is ideal from October to April.
Summer can be hot, especially in the south and desert regions.
🧳 What to Pack
Light layers for daytime, a warm jacket for chilly desert nights.
Closed shoes for walking and motorbike boots if riding.
Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat or scarf for sun protection.
A swimsuit (yes, some riads and desert camps have pools!).
💰 Money & Tipping
Local currency: Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Bring euros or dollars to exchange or use ATMs in cities.
Small bills are useful for tips, snacks, or local purchases.
Tipping is appreciated: 5–10% in restaurants, and a small tip for guides or drivers is welcome.
📱 Connectivity & SIM Cards
You can buy a local SIM card (Maroc Telecom, Orange, Inwi) at the airport or in cities.
Coverage is good even in many remote areas, especially with Maroc Telecom.
🕌 Culture & Customs
Morocco is welcoming and tolerant, but modest dress is appreciated, especially in villages.
Ask before taking photos of people.
Friday is a holy day — some services may close in the afternoon.
🚘 Road & Safety Tips (especially for adventure travel)
Always follow your guide’s instructions during off-road or motorbike tours.
Roads are generally good, but driving in the mountains or desert requires experience.
Avoid night driving in rural areas.
🧼 Health & Hygiene
No vaccines are required. Tap water is not always recommended — prefer bottled water.
Pack basic medication and let us know about allergies or health needs.
✔️ Extra Tip:
Always carry some cash, copies of your passport, and a scarf — it’s helpful in the desert and respectful in mosques or villages.
